You may not think of temperatures in the 50’s as cold, but it purely is in sunny South Florida. Maybe many of you are turning on your heat for the first time, so here are some tips. If you have electric resistance heat, you may experience a slight burning smell at first. Chances are you are burning off any dust that settled on the heater coils the other eleven months of the year. Let the heater run and the smell should go away shortly. If it does not, turn the heat off and call your service company. Another issue involves tripping a breaker. If too many people turn on their heat at the same time, it could put a burden on the electric demand from your supplier, just wait a few minutes and try it again. If it continues to trip, call your service company. Last is gas appliances, be careful about carbon monoxide (see earlier post).
